Yes I know this goes against the grain and perhaps it is a bit underhanded, but I was playing with a new toy today that anyone can download: OTS Turntables
After setting your proper realtime buffering settings for your sound card, you basically pull in playlists or single tracks and scratch away on a pair of virtual turntables.
What did I spin? Well I went for “Exposure” (the RF version) on table one and “Urban Landscape” on table 2 and I have to say there is a lot of interesting potential there. Normally I would not have thought that scratching with ambient made much sense but I am going to have to revisit the issue.
Here’s another one I am thinking might be interesting:
“Haaden Two / Robert Fripp” on table one
“She’s So Heavy (coda) / The Beatles” on table two
If you balanced out the tempos you could probably do some neat chaos mixing with that.
